Sarah Galloway
Medical Student at California University of Science and Medicine
Sarah is currently a medical student at California University of Science and Medicine (Class of 2026) and intends to specialize in pathology due to her passion for biomedical research and studying pathomechanisms of disease.
Sarah received her Bachelor of Science in cellular/molecular biology from Cal Poly Humboldt in 2019 and thereafter began working on Lyme disease with Dr. Michal Tal in the Irving Weissman Lab at the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. Sarah initially joined the Weissman Lab as a Bridges 2.0 Scholar representing the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and was hired the following year as a Life Science Research Professional 2.
During her three years at Stanford University, Sarah led research projects studying the immunological host-pathogen interactions of Borrelia burgdorferi. She also helped develop the B-FLIP, a novel flow-based diagnostic assay used for high-resolution immune profiling. Sarah’s primary research involved characterizing a pathological IgE-dependent immune response to Borrelia burgdorferi observed in patients with Lyme disease.
Despite living on the west coast, Sarah is grateful for the ability to continue her research with Dr. Michal Tal at MIT. Through her remote role, Sarah plans projects, designs experiments, analyzes data, writes manuscripts, and consults with the Tal Research Group. Sarah welcomes all correspondence and forming new connections in the biomedical field.
